Accessing God's Power: Unlocking Your Potential in Christ

In 1 Corinthians 4:20, we read, "For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power." This powerful verse underscores a core truth: Christianity isn't just about words, it's about power. The essence of our faith lies in functioning in the power of God, a power that transforms lives and circumstances. Is this power evident in your life? Are you actively seeking it? God's plan is to grant us access to His divine power. Do you believe you have access to this power? If so, are you using it?

Salvation: The Access Point

The initial access point to this power comes through the prayer of salvation. Romans 1:16 states, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth." Salvation, as also highlighted in 1 Peter 1:5, is not merely a destination, but the doorway through which we are "kept by the power of God through faith." Is salvation merely a 'ticket to heaven' in your mind, or is it the beginning of a life empowered by God? Yet, while we gain access at our born-again moment, manifesting this power requires more. What more is required? Are you actively pursuing it?

The Cost of Power

Every child of God is designed to walk in power, but few are willing to pay the price. Are you willing to pay the price for God's power?

God, the Almighty, desires to distribute His power to those who can bear the cost. It is this divine power that changes our circumstances and elevates our lives. How has God's power changed your circumstances? Without it, we remain stagnant, even after being born again.

Do you feel stagnant in your Christian walk? God's power is designed to grow, taking us from strength to strength, glory to glory, and, ultimately, power to power, as we pay the necessary cost. How is your power growing? This power, residing in the spiritual realm, is invisible to the physical eye. If it's invisible, how do we know it's there?

Six Divisions of God's Power

The power of God manifests in various ways: Which of these ways are you experiencing?

  • Destroying Satanic Oppression: Exodus 15:6 proclaims, "Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power; thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy." This power dismantles the works of the enemy. Psalm 66:3 reinforces this, stating that through God's power, enemies submit. Are you seeing the power of God dismantling the works of the enemy in your life? Are you submitting to God so that the enemy can be submitted to you?

  • Supernatural Healing: As seen in Matthew 10:1 and Acts 10:38, God's power is essential for supernatural healing, conquering everything from headaches to cancer and addictions. Every sickness and addiction bows to the power of God. Have you experienced supernatural healing in your life? Do you believe God still heals today?

  • Wealth Creation: Deuteronomy 8:18 reminds us that God "giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant." Do you believe God wants you to prosper? How are you using your resources to further God's kingdom?

  • Preaching the Gospel: Romans 15:19 speaks of preaching the gospel "through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God." John 10:18 speaks of Jesus having the power to lay down his life and take it again. Are you sharing the gospel with others? Are you relying on your own strength, or the power of the Holy Spirit?

  • Hearing God: Psalm 62:11 declares that "power belongeth unto God." It takes power to discern God's voice. Those who hear God daily operate in high power. Can you clearly hear God's voice? How are you cultivating your ability to hear from God?

  • Receiving Him: John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name". John 10:18 speaks of Jesus having the power to lay down his life and take it again. Is it enough to simply recognize that we received God, or is there something else?

The Spiritual Equation for Power

To function in God's power, we need high morality combined with high spirituality based on the Word of God. How would you rate your own morality and spirituality? Are you actively working to increase both? Morality without spirituality, or spirituality without morality, will not unlock God's power in our lives. Are you striving for both?

Why We Need God's Power

We must be qualified to carry God's power to: Why do you want God's power?

  • Show the Glory of God: Our lives become a display of God's glory on earth. Is your life a reflection of God's glory?

  • Have True Impact: We can genuinely transform lives. Jude 1:22 speaks of "making a difference," which requires power. Are you making a difference in the world around you?

How to Be Qualified for God's Power

God Himself qualifies us through: Which of these are you actively pursuing?

  • Being Planted in God's House: Consistent presence in God's house is vital. Luke 5:17 and Luke 24:49, along with Acts 1:8, emphasize the importance of remaining in Jerusalem (Zion, the church). Rejecting Zion cuts off the flow of power. Matthew 28:18 and Mark 14:62 connect the church to heavenly power. Psalm 150:1 encourages us to praise God in His sanctuary. Disciplined appearance and behaviour in church are also necessary for eventual power, as highlighted in 1 Timothy 3:15. This includes attending all services, being on time, dressing formally, not leaving early, and giving offerings and tithes. Is attending church a priority in your life? Is it just a routine, or are you actively engaging in worship and fellowship? Are you disciplined in your attendance and behaviour?

  • Praying and Fasting: Communication with God, combined with denying ourselves food, generates power. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 speaks of praying that God would "fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power." Matthew 17:21 emphasizes that some things "go not out but by prayer and fasting." Exodus 15:6 illustrates the power of scripturally strong prayers. How would you describe your prayer life? Do you fast regularly? Are you seeing results from your prayers and fasting?

  • Increased Obedience: The more we obey the Bible, the more access we have to God's power. Romans 1:4, 1:16, and 1 Corinthians 1:24 connect obedience to power. Delaying or refusing obedience delays access to God's power. 2 Timothy 1:8 speaks of partaking in the afflictions of the gospel "according to the power of God." Hebrews 4:12 highlights the power of God's word. Luke 4:32 states that Jesus spoke with power. Holiness, a result of obedience, is directly linked to increased power, as seen in 2 Samuel 22:33. How obedient are you to God's Word? Are you quick to obey, or do you often delay or refuse? How would you rate your holiness?

  • Praise: Psalm 21:13, 150:1 and 59:16 highlight praise as a platform to receive God's power by creating His presence. Psalm 68:35 states that God "giveth strength and power unto his people." Strong worship, not casual worship, curates power. The angels excel in power through worship (Psalm 103:20). Is praise a regular part of your life? Is your worship strong and heartfelt, or casual and routine?
